first_imgFormer Arsenal star Ray Parlour believes Danny Welbeck will be desperate to prove Louis van Gaal wrong when he faces Manchester United on Saturday. The Dutchman sold the England forward to the Gunners for £16million in the summer, and claimed the striker was not up to the standards required at Old Trafford.Welbeck has enjoyed his start to life in north London, scoring five goals in his opening 12 matches for Arsene Wenger’s side.Van Gaal, speaking ahead of the Premier League clash at the Emirates, has stood by his assessment of the 23-year-old, but Parlour insists the comments will just inspire Welbeck.“You should never say anything before the game,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “Danny Welbeck will be chomping at the bit to score a couple of goals. He’s in great form at the moment.“A lot of eyes were raised when Danny moved to Arsenal.
