Ahead of the 2019 season, Texas went the extra step to make the moment extra special for two special players. On Wednesday, Texas revealed a video of two players being told that they were now on scholarship. In a playful ruse by the team, walk-on linebacker Cort Jaquess was invited on stage to give a slideshow presentation. After Jaquess was done with the presentation, an extra slide was shown, revealing that he and fellow walk-on linebacker Russell Hine were now on scholarship. The reaction from their Texas teammates was immediate, as they rushed to Jaquess and Hine to embrace them. You’re on scholarship! Congratulations @RussellHine24 & @jaysoncort89! 🤘🤘🤘🤘#ThisIsTexas #HookEm pic.twitter.com/vLlpFxkfKx— Texas Football (@TexasFootball) August 15, 2019The two Texas walk-ons were then invited to the stage, where they both expressed their thanks for the opportunity. In an emotional moment, Jaquess reflected on how a privilege it was to play on scholarship for Texas just as his father once had.Hine also thanked everyone, and gave a special shoutout to head coach Tom Herman. The UT Football Walkons Twitter account later announced that specialist Justin Mader also earned his scholarship.🚨SCHOLARSHIP ALERT🚨We had THREE of our boys earn scholarships today. Cort Jaquess, Russell Hine, and not pictured (because specialists don’t matter apparently) Justin Mader. All are more than deserving and we couldn’t be happier for each of them.🤘 #WalkOnWednesday https://t.co/BcOXKP6Zei— UT Football Walkons (@ut_walkons) August 15, 2019Congratulations to Texas’ three new scholarship players!
